Today we learned how to use ChatGPD. This website is an AI text generator that creates almost anything you ask it to that contains text. Using This website we tried making, messages for others, asking it for recipes, playlists, and even trip itineraries. This technology is out of this world and scares me a bit. For my Free inquiry, I asked it to make me a bucket list of outdoor adventures to do on Vancouver island. Here are the results below.
- Hike the West Coast Trail
- Kayak the Broken Group Islands
- Go whale watching in Tofino
- Explore the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve
- Climb Mount Arrowsmith
- Go sea kayaking in Clayoquot Sound
- Take a scenic drive on the Pacific Marine Circle Route
- Backpack the Nootka Trail
- Go surfing in Long Beach
- Visit the Hot Springs Cove
- Explore the famous cathedral grove of old-growth Douglas fir trees in MacMillan Provincial Park
- Camp at Strathcona Provincial Park
- Go fishing in one of the many rivers or lakes on the island
- Take a boat tour of the Desolation Sound Marine Park
- Go on a bear-watching tour in Knight Inlet.
The world is always changing, and it is important that we change how we teach to align with these changes. I think in regard to new technology and artificial intelligence, we will have to reimagine education with the way we look at plagiarism and tracking if students use AI to make up their assignments. I think because all this new technology is coming so fast, we have to work equally as hard to find ways to regulate this technology so students can still learn. I think having resources like ChatGPD that are accessible to anyone is very dangerous, especially because students usually try to find the easy way out. For this reason, I do not know what the solution will be like for teachers for controlling the use of ChatGPD. As of right now, it seems like if we feel that students are not doing their work anymore and using AI to do it, we will have to go back to paper and pen techniques because there is no way to track AI writing yet.
The hard thing about reimagining education is that not every teacher will want to change their pedagogy. Some would rather be comfortable in their normal routine, as others are intrigued to try new things. As reimaging education requires a team to work together to change it. You have to have an entire group that is excited to make changes with ever changing technologies.
